The St. Barnabas Center for Ministry provides a safe, Christian setting for children ages 7 - 12 through an after-school program & summer camp in Uptown Harrisburg. Along with being a Diocesan-supported ministry, some of our area churches have been involved for years through board representation, preparing & serving meals for summer campers & counselors, along with offering financial support.
This year, St. Barnabas is one of 35 organizations taking part in Highmark's "Walk for a Healthy Community" on Saturday, May 22nd. While St. Barnabas has been going through a reorganization, the timing for this fundraiser is perfect for a ministry that is needed more than ever in Harrisburg.
Led by the original founders, Bishop McNutt & Bishop Edmiston, the walk begins at 9 a.m. We are putting together a team of St. Barnabas walkers, and you can either do 1 mile or 3.1 miles. If you can't be there, consider providing spiritual & virtual support by going to www.walkforahealthycommunity.org, selecting Harrisburg, and then choosing St. Barnabas Center for Ministry. You can either make an on-line pledge or register to walk. Our goal is $17,000 in honor of our 17th year, so anything you can do to help us achieve that is appreciated. Bishop Baxter has sent a letter to the Diocese encouraging support of the Center; you can read it here.
