St. Mark’s Church, Lewistown broke new ground in its outreach efforts by broadcasting its 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Family Service on the World Wide Web!

Assisted in part by a Project Grant from the Diocese, technical expertise from the Diocesan Office of Communications, and the dedication of a media savvy parishioner, St. Mark’s has acquired the technical ability to “livestream” its worship service.

David Zwifka at Christmas Eve

The Rev. David Zwifka is seen here talking with children from St. Mark’s during his Christmas Eve sermon. On the video camera, taping and sending the service out to the World Wide Web is St. Mark’s parishioner, Johnny Xanthopoulos.

And viewing from San Ramon, California was a man who, the day before Christmas Eve, came down with a bad virus. Unable to attend an Episcopal service that evening due to his condition, he searched the web for Episcopal Services that were to be streamed, and found the link to St. Mark’s. Grateful for the opportunity to share in a Christmas Eve service, after the service, the man emailed Diocesan Communications Coordinator, Linda Arguedas, with his thanks, “I just wanted you to know how appreciative I am, and that it was a wonderful service. “

“It's wonderful to know that it may have touched even ONE person, especially one who had no previous knowledge of St. Mark's.... The power of the internet and search engines is sometimes a wonderful thing!” said Johnny after reading the email from California.
