M’Ladies, in dress, gloves and hat, along with M’Lords, in various array, honored the request of the Queen and attended the royal wedding of Prince William and the beautiful Catherine Middleton.
Of course, the location of the service was at the Westminster Abbey, in London, on April 29th. However, crowds were no less enthusiastic, even at 5:30 in the morning, in the Great Room of St. Andrew’s, York, Pa.
With the Rev. Dr. David Robson presiding, the Prince and wife-to-be entered the parish Great Room via a large screen “tele” right on cue. All were in rapt attention whilst the ceremony proceeded. The focus was on the wonderful homily offered by the Bishop of London. It was well-spoken to the couple who may one day be King and Queen.
Scones and crumpets with clotted cream and various jams and jellies accompanied the eggs and pastries in perfect complement. Plenty of sparkling champagne, mimosas, coffee and, of course, Twinning Tea provided not only for our thirst, but for the many toasts well spoken.
Truly an extension of food, fun and fellowship offerings, so common in this parish, a proper British “moment” was felt as “God Save the Queen” paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth. In very proper fashion, another round of toasts were raised, without objection, led by several “Brits” in attendance.
All departed the festivities in time for school or work and with the opportunity to have been interviewed by the many reporters and “tele’ stations present. Word has it a newspaper from Long Island “ran” a story, as well.
No doubt the royal send-off from the good folks of St. Andrew’s, York, will contribute mightily to the heartfelt best wishes resounding from around the world. A final toast, from all, was prayed for the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and his lady, Catherine, and that the blessings of our Lord, Jesus Christ, be with them, always.
