St. Andrew's in the City began a new, exciting phase of its mission with a "Dumpster Day" on April 13.

The day began with prayers led by The Rev. Canon Ted Babcock. |
St. Andrew’s in the City, a parish with a history of deep commitment to serving God and the community is blessed to be on the move again. Over thirty years ago it founded a mission church in Linglestown, St. Andrew’s in the Valley. Over time the Valley grew and the city church began to decline. After many years of searching for its mission, St. Andrew’s in the City has asked the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania if it can become a mission church of the diocese. Working together the city church members have rediscovered their mission and a new spirit is flowing through the church.
The spirit has manifested itself in a call to plan and execute a radical makeover of the parish building. The old is coming out and the new is coming in. Supported by the Harrisburg convocation of parishes St. Andrew’s in the City planned two events. The first was “Dumpster Day” or D-day! At least two parishes and a mission church of the diocese and Diocesan staff banded together to help clean out the old on Saturday April 13th from 9am until1 pm.
On June 1st, the “Radical Makeover” begins. Painters, electricians, plumbers and common laborers from parishes throughout the convocation will descend upon St. Andrew’s in the City to repaint walls and ceilings, upgrade electrical fixtures, wiring and plumbing. It is a day of resurrection. It will be a day of joy as the City church feels the embrace of the Diocese as the Harrisburg convocation commits to supporting the new mission of the Episcopal Church In Harrisburg.
