The Prayer Quilt Ministry began at St. John's Episcopal Church, Marietta, in the spring of 2007.
Deacon Nancy Rementer says, “I love to quilt and while attending the diocesan convention in June of 2006, I discovered a book on prayer quilt ministry, Fabric of Faith, by Kimberly Winston. This seemed like a wonderful way to reach out to those in the parish and in the community who were in need of comfort and loving prayers as they struggled with chronic illness, recovery from surgery and chemotherapy.”
When the idea was suggested to develop such a ministry at St. John's about 15-20 women were interested, including those who could not sew but wanted to be involved in whatever way they could help. To date St. John's has made, dedicated and blessed approximately 130-140 quilts. These quilts have traveled as close as Market Street in Marietta and as far away as Uganda. The ministry has been a blessing for those who design, cut, press and sew the quilts as well as those who have received them. It is the parish's unique way of sharing the love of Christ with those who suffer and letting them know they are never alone as we remember them in prayer and wrap them in divine love.
There is more information at st-johns-marietta.diocpa.org. There was a recent celebration of the prayer quilt ministry and a few testimonies are on the website.
