At the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, burns a flame at the site of Christ's birth. This flame has been kept lit for centuries to symbolize peace, love and goodness.

Peace Flame

It is said that in the 12th century a pilgrim brought home the Peace Light to share with his family and friends. In modern times the flame from this light has begun to be passed around the world as Christians pause to celebrate Christ's birth. On November 29th the Peace Light flame landed at JFK airport and began the journey across America. On the day before Christmas the flame arrived at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist in York, Pa., as final preparations were being made to celebrate Christ's birth. Thanks to parishioner, Tammy Bray, the flame burns brightly beside the nativity in the nave of the church building. Christmas Eve as the congregation sang Silent Night, the flame from the Bethlehem Peace Light was passed among the participants.
