Princeton professor of religion and renowned author Elaine Pagels delivered a lecture at Dickinson College, Carlisle, on March 1.

Elaine PagelsLecturing on "The Cultural Impact of the Book of Revelation," Pagels provided a concise and insightful overview both of the book of Revelation and its varied uses over the ensuing centuries.  Speaking of her current work on various revelation texts that were contemporary to the one ultimately included in the Christian canon, she highlighted both similarities and great differences between them, as well as the theological implications of Revelation's inclusion in what we know today as the New Testament.

The lecture was the inaugural Mary Ellen Borges Memorial Lecture, named for a long-time member of St. John's, Carlisle, and was jointly sponsored by St. John's and Dickinson College.
