Happy Birthday, St. Benedict's!

On Sunday, March 4, St. Benedict's Episcopal Church in New Freedom, southern York County, celebrated its eighth birthday with a special service.

St. Benedict's is the newest mission in the diocese.  The first service was held on Saturday night, February 28, 2004, in a small annex of a nearby Lutheran church.  Fewer than 12 people attended the first service.  Since that time, it has grown to an average attendance in the 30's, worshiping Sundays in a historic church rented from the local Roman Catholic parish.

The birthday celebration featured a talented vocal trio (consisting of Erin Cronin, Don Linebaugh and Laurie Kotter) performing during the service and a potluck dinner following worship in the social hall.  Great food, fellowship, and of course, a birthday cake topped off the celebration.  St. Benedict's is widely known as an "outreach focused" congregation, with 100% participation.  It is also known as a warm and welcoming church home.  For more information on St. Benedict's, see their website at www.stbenedictschurch.org.
