The 47th Triennial Meeting of the ECW was held July 5-11 in Indianapolis.  The theme of  the gathering was Many Paths, One Journey.

“Just as we are traveling on many paths, the theme will mean different things to each of us … but all of us travel together on one journey, the journey towards being more Christ-like,” said Marcia Himes, President ECW.

Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori opened the first plenary session with the blessing and distribution of specially designed Triennial crosses to each delegate.

During business sessions new ECW Board members were elected.  The UTO Committee has now been officially designed as a Board.  Those members were introduced.

A special ceremony was held on July 7 during which a Distinguished Woman from each diocese was honored.  Our honoree was Wilma Johnson, a member of St. Paul’s in Wellsboro.

The ECW and UTO held a combined Gala Dinner.  The Rev. Canon Petero A.N. Sabune, the Africa partnership officer for the Episcopal Church, delivered the keynote address.

The first ECW 5K Run/Walk was held on July 8 with many men and women from the both the Triennial and the General Convention participating.  The proceeds from the event were donated to the John P. Craine House, a work-release facility for non-violent female felons and their pre-school children.

Two resolutions were presented during the business meetings.  First - Resolution No. 101 was to appoint a committee to research and review the function and structure of the ECW National Board.  The present function and structure were included in the Bylaws adopted at the 38th Triennial in 1985.  The Committee will present their recommendations to the 2012-2015 National board and ultimately to the 48th Triennial in Salt Lake City.  Resolution passed.

Resolution No. 102 – In order to be in compliance with the IRS and the group exemption of The Episcopal Church, the ECW Bylaws require revision.  Currently the ECW is temporarily granted tax exemption status under the Group Exemption of the Episcopal Church.  This exemption requires direct control or supervision by the entity holding the tax exemption under IRS Code.  Current ECW Bylaws do not conform to the requirement of the Code.  It was proposed the current nominating process be revised.  The nominating committee would include a representative from each Province.  Candidates would be approved by the Presiding Bishop and Executive Council.  The process would require completion 60 days prior to the 2015 Executive Council meeting.  Resolution Passed.
