Bishop Baxter has announced two appointments to the staff of the Diocese.

The Rev. Dr. Theodore Babcock will become Canon to the Ordinary effective September 7, 2010.  Dr. Babcock is currently rector of St. Andrew’s Church, Shippensburg. Previously, he served Christ Church Greenwich, CT., and St. David’s Church, Bronx, NY. Prior to his ordination, he worked in several corporations, including as Managing Director and CEO of Babcock, Blance and & Company. Fr. Babcock holds a B.A. (with distinction) from the University of Michigan; an M.A. in History from the University of Virginia; an M.B.A. from Harvard University; the M.Div. from The General Theological Seminary; and Th.D. from the Graduate Theological Foundation. He and his wife, Lyn, will continue to live in Shippensburg.

The Rev. Robyn Szoke will begin her ministry as Canon for Children and Youth Ministry effective September 7, 2010. Mother Robyn is currently Sr. Associate at St. John’s Church, Carlisle, and she will continue part-time in that ministry, as her diocesan appointment is half time. This use of her prodigious talent represents a creative collaboration between St. John’s and the Diocese. Previously, Mother Robyn served as the Episcopal Church National Officer for Children and Christian Education, NYC; Faculty, Moravian Theological Seminary, Bethlehem, PA; Assistant to the Bishop for Christian Education, Diocese of Pennsylvania; and Associate Rector, Trinity Pottsville, and St. Stephen’s Church, Wilkes Barre, Pa.  She holds a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from West Chester University; an M.Ed. from Lehigh University; an M.Div. from Moravian Theological Seminary; and an S.T.M. in Liturgics from The General Seminary, NYC. She will continue to live in the Carlisle area.

The Diocese is planning a liturgy of institution for the early Fall at the Cathedral Church of Stephen, Harrisburg.

These are wonderful appointments! Ted and Robyn are gifted, experienced, and dedicated priests who will give the bishop terrific support and their leadership will be a blessing to the diocese. We at St. John's Carlisle have been blessed with Mo. Robyn's full time ministry as our Associate Rector for the past six years. While it will be challenging for us and for her to find a good balance between her continuing responsbilities at St. John's and her new ministry on diocesan staff, I am sure that we can live into this new model. I would congratulate the bishop and both his new staff clergy!
