Stressors and Benefits - The role of the Clergy Spouse takes kindness, endurance, understanding, not only of his or her mate but of the congregations he or she pastors. Scant other vocations offer this challenge on the family level.
On Friday and Saturday, October 21 and 22 at the peacefully beautiful St. Cyril’s Academy in Danville, Pa., Dr. Frank Stalfa Jr. of Lancaster Theological Seminary helped eight Diocese of Central Pennsylvania spouses explore the common experiences of their lives: going to “work” with the spouse- on weekends, Christmas, and Easter. From daily work schedule conflicts, to vacations, to kids, participants spoke candidly of the life’s peaks and valleys.
Bishop Baxter concluded the seminar with messages from Luke and Corinthians regarding our gifts and, how, like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we have a chance to let church members see Jesus by the gifts we have as we seek His guidance. He closed with Holy Eucharist.
The group expressed enormous gratitude to Mary Ellen Baxter who lovingly coordinated this much-needed time of reflection and expression.
