All Saints, Hershey, broke ground on Sunday, Nov. 4, for the church's planned renovation.
On Sunday, Nov. 4, the Reverend Susan Q. Claytor, Rector of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, and the Vestry of All Saints’ held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the planned renovation of the church in order to make the church handicapped-accessible. The renovation, titled as ACCESSIBLE TO ALL, will be focused primarily on an elevator connecting the sanctuary to the downstairs parish hall, accessible bathrooms on both levels of the church and ramps into the buildings. Construction is planned to be started in November, 2012, and completed in the spring of 2013.
Founded in 1938 as a mission station in Hershey, the present church building was erected in 1955, and the parish became official in 1962. The church building was expanded to its present cruciform shape in 1978, featuring a new organ, choir loft, parish offices and bell tower. The planning for the current renovation began in 2006. All Saints’ is one of the 71 congregations in the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania, based in Harrisburg, under the leadership of our Bishop, the Right Reverend Nathan Baxter.
The Robert A Lack Architecture + Design firm, based in Lewisburg, PA, designed the planned renovation to assure the greatest possible accessibility for all parishioners and visitors. Pyramid Construction Services, Inc., based in Wormleysburg, PA, has been selected as contractor to oversee and carry out the construction.
