Bishop Baxter has announced the pending retirement of the Rev. Canon Joseph Seville, who has served as Canon to the Ordinary (chief diocesan administrator) for the past fourteen years.
In a letter to clergy and diocesan leaders, Bishop Baxter wrote:
Dear Friends in Christ,
It is my sad task to announce the retirement of the Rev. Canon Joseph Yates Seville. Canon Seville has been a faithful servant of God’s Church, the Chief Administrative Officer of the Diocese and, for me personally, a cherished colleague. He has served as Canon to the Ordinary for 14 years and will leave office on July 31, 2010.
A graduate of Temple University and Yale Divinity School, he also earned an M.P.A. from Penn State University, focusing on diocesan organizational systems. Canon Seville was ordained by Bishop D.T. Stevenson. From 1973 to 1983 he served parishes in Central Pennsylvania, and was a member of several commissions, including the Youth Commission, Finance Committee and the Council of Trustees. He served parishes in the Dioceses of Easton and Kansas from 1983 until 1996, when he returned to become Canon to the Ordinary to Bishop Michael Creighton.
I know that you join me in wishing every joy for Joe and his wife Linda as they move into this new phase of their life together. As a diocese we will formally acknowledge Canon Seville’s leadership and retirement at Diocesan Convention.
