St. Luke’s, Altoona hosted a candlelight memorial service to commemorate AIDS victims on Sunday, May 15. The Candlelight Memorial Service is an annual event held to honor the lives of those who have lost their fight to the AIDS virus.  It is one of the oldest services honoring those who have died and to offer support to those effected by this illness.

This year, the Service in the Episcopal Diocese of Central Pennsylvania was held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Altoona, attended by approximately 45 people from the surrounding area.  James M. Taylor, Chair of the Commission on HIV/AIDS, as well as members Deacon Jack Hofer and Fr. Cliff Johnston, all participated in the evening, sharing in a Litany of Remembrance.  An awareness walk through the neighborhood began the evening, and refreshments followed.
