The Ecumenical Service is sponsored by all four houses of worship in Eagles Mere - the Presbyterian, Community, Catholic and Episcopalian churches - in an effort to combine the town's congregations once a year in a single, unifying service. Approximately 250 participants gathered on the village green were joined in readings and song led by community leaders and heard Bishop Baxter's sermon.

This was the second time Bishop Baxter officiated at this outdoor gathering; he also presided in 2007 during his first visit to Eagles Mere and St. John's in the Wilderness Episcopal Church there.
