Deacons in Central Pennsylvania
In 2012 The Diocese of Central Pennsylvania has twenty-seven ordained Deacons serving directly under the Bishop. They are living out their call to servant ministry in small and large parishes throughout our Diocese. To see current assignments, click here.
During the ordination service our Bishop reminds us that we are called to a special ministry of service to all people, but especially those who are poor, weak, sick and lonely. Further in the ordination service he tells us that by “word and example we are called to interpret to the church the needs concerns and hopes of the world.” In the photos it is possible to see a few of our Deacons who are engaged in ministry in the communities in which they live. Others work in small parishes and are
heavily involved in the day to day business of parish life.
We continually have prospective deacons in the process working toward ordination. We always hope others will feel they are called from among the baptized into the special life of servant ministry as a Deacon. After consulting with their clergy anyone who feels this call is welcome to explore with the Dean of the School of Christian Studies the possibility of entering the one year class for discerning ministry.
